DSP on TV

For those who enjoy murder mystery drama of the cosier variety—we salute you. And few new series of that ilk have been so welcome in recent years as the Emmy-nominated Queens of Mystery, now in its second season on Acorn TV. The show centres on three crime novelist sisters. They have a habit of stumbling on suspicious deaths in real life, not to mention a penchant for amateur sleuthing. They work in tandem with their niece Matilda, conveniently an actual police detective. The locations and design are predictably—but delightfully—pretty and English. The stories are deliciously light, eccentric, often extremely funny, with a generous dash of the macabre. The creator and writer is Julian Unthank, renowned for scripting Doc Martin and other popular TV series.
We’re excited that one of our titles, The Mystery of the Peacock’s Eye by Brian Flynn, features prominently in episodes 5 and 6 of the new season of Queens of Mystery. In fact, it turns out to be something of a plot point—but no spoilers here!
There is yet another link between Dean Street Press and Queens of Mystery. Olivia Vinall, who played Matilda in season 1, is Brian Flynn’s great-niece.
Viewers in the UK have already enjoyed Season 2 of Queens of Mystery in its entirety. This new season has also now started its run in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. Episodes 5 and 6 will be released together on Monday, January 24th. Enjoy.
